Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of Skrive, a private journalling app made by Isak Solheim / Datamus. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms.
The service
Skrive provides a macOS application for writing private journal entries. Entries are encrypted on your device with a key only you control. A paid subscription adds encrypted cloud backup and sync across your devices.
Your account
You must provide a valid email address to create an account. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials and encryption passphrase secure. Your passphrase cannot be recovered — if you lose it, your encrypted entries cannot be decrypted by anyone, including us.
Subscription and payment
Some features require a paid subscription, billed through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorise recurring charges at the then-current rate. You can cancel at any time from your account settings; access continues until the end of the current billing period.
Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. If you have a problem, reach out at hello@skrive.app.
Acceptable use
You may use Skrive for personal journalling. You may not use Skrive to store or transmit illegal content, attempt to reverse-engineer or circumvent the encryption, or interfere with the service's infrastructure.
Your data
Your journal entries belong to you. Because entries are encrypted end-to-end, we have no ability to access or read them. You can export your data at any time from within the app, and request full account deletion by emailing hello@skrive.app. See the Privacy Policy for full details on how data is handled.
Service availability
Skrive is provided as-is. We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The app stores entries locally, so you can always read and write your journal even when offline or if the cloud service is unavailable.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Datamus is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Skrive, including loss of data. Our total liability to you will not exceed the amount you paid in the three months preceding the claim.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms occasionally. If changes are material, we will notify you by email. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Norway. Any disputes will be resolved in Norwegian courts.
